A six-year-old girl is dead and a three-year old-boy was taken to hospital but later discharged after an incident with a scrum machine in East Auckland today.

It is thought the machine toppled onto the pair.

Distraught family and players did not want anyone near the scene.

The 3 News camera stayed well back as mourners, including All Black Keven Mealamu, asked media to respect the wishes of family.

People 3 News spoke to believe that the child was Mealamu’s relative.

Few details are known, but police say a touch game was being played at the Tamaki College grounds this afternoon.

Just after 2:30pm an ambulance was called. It is believed the six-year-old was already dead.

A three-year-old boy was taken to Middlemore Hospital with what is thought to be a mild head injury, but he was later discharged.

No one would be interviewed at the scene as upset friends and family left the school grounds.

The family touch tournament was nearing its end when the accident happened, neighbours said they heard loud shouts as everyone converged on the scene.

Labour inspectors are still at the scene as police continue their investigations.

Unbeliable accident just before the game finished..
Maybe it wasn't an accident but a setup to finish the game without a smile..
There is more death in this country and has been mulitable since the terrorist snicked in to our country..

Don't be too proud of yourselves for "keeping well back". I see it didn't stop your cameras from using the zoom lens to get footage anyway.
