Sofia Vergara defends Modern Family depiction

Actress Sofia Vergara refuses to listen to critics who accuse her of fuelling Latina stereotypes with her role as a "loud" Colombian wife on hit US sitcom Modern Family, insisting it is "who we are".
The sexy star has played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the popular TV show since its launch in 2009 and she has been surprised by how well-received her character has become by viewers.
She tells America's Allure magazine, "I thought there's nothing to love about this character - she's like a gold digger, marrying the older guy."
However, not everyone is a fan of Vergara's portrayal - but the sexy actress has brushed off concerns about stereotyping because she believes the majority of claims about Latinas are true.
She says, "Some people ask me, 'Are you scared that you are stereotyping Latin women?' and I don't even know why that is supposed to be bad. I mean, this is who we are. We're loud. We're passionate. We're colourful. We're voluptuous.
"I would never prefer to be called boring, or that, 'She has no ass'. Or, 'She's very quiet.' So I am not scared of the stereotype of the Latin woman, because I think it's fantastic."
