Rebecca Soni of the United States smashed her world record from the previous day to win back-to-back Olympic 200 metres breaststroke gold at the London Games.
Soni became the first woman to go below 2 minute 20 seconds when she clocked 2:19.59, after improving the mark by 12 hundredths of a second to 2:20.00 in the semi-finals.
Satomi Szuki of Japan took silver in 2:20.72 and Yuliya Efimova got bronze in a European record of 2:20.92.
