The sons of two champion fathers are out to dominate tomorrow's $1 million Auckland Cup at Ellerslie.

Seven-year-old Aussie raider Zavite, a son of Cambridge studs Super Sire Zabeel is trained by Anthony Cummings, son of Melbourne Cup legend Bart.

It was a gentle canter for Auckland Cup hopeful Zavite at Pukekohe early this morning, the Aussie visitor to carry a top weight of 57.5kg – but that doesn't faze his trainer.

Anthony Cummings says his weight is good compared to his 60.5kg at Moonee Valley.

After running fourth in last year’s Caulfield Cup, Zavite failed to fire at Flemmington in the Melbourne Cup – a race won by Mr Cumming’s father Bart 12 times.

But he is proven at the distance – having won the Adelaide Cup.

The Auckland Cup would be a nice addition to a career that has tested the patience of his connections – Zavite broke his pelvis as a two-year-old.

If Zavite isn't first across the line it doesn't mean his Sire Zabeel won't claim yet another group one victory with the Cambridge stud champion having four other runners in the cup.
