An earthquake drill is likely to be the first order of the day, as Southbridge School reopens its gates to staff and students.

The school, located about 50 minutes drive from the centre of Christchurch, is believed to be the only school to fully open, after the province's earthquake forced widespread closures.

The school's board of trustees chairman Andrew Lambie says it's been a straightforward decision.

Mr Lambie says the school's sewage and water systems have been left relatively unscathed.

Wow! Southbridge now has enough cars to warrant a road patrol, I am seriously impressed. I think the kids and their teachers are really brave to return to school today, kia kaha :)
