Overnight snowfalls in the South Island have been welcomed by ski field operators and the local tourism agency in Queenstown.
Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd says the snow, which has arrived just in time for the annual Winter Festival, couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Mother Nature has definitely come to the party,” he says.
Coronet Peak ski field received around 30cm of snow overnight, while 25cm fell at Cardrona and 20cm at The Remarkables.
Snow also fell on downtown Queenstown itself.
Nearby, at Wanaka’s Treble Cone, up to 35cm of new snow fell ahead of the field’s opening day this Thursday.
