Green MP Sue Kedgley says the decision is a true testament to the power of animal welfare groups

Agriculture Minister David Carter will announce later today that sow crates for pigs will be banned by the end of 2015.

Green MP Sue Kedgley says the decision is a true testament to the power of animal welfare groups that have publicly opposed the use of sow crates by the pork industry.

Ms Kedgley says the practise is cruel and says she will also introduce a private members bill that will ensure all New Zealand's imported pork is not confined to sow crates.
