An 81-year-old grandmother with a penchant for speed plans to defy Australian police, who want her license revoked.
Judith Slade led police on a 164km/h chase down a Victoria highway on Monday afternoon.
She told news website heraldsun.com.au she had to drive that fast, because she didn’t want to be separated from her secret younger lesbian lover, who was travelling in another vehicle.
"My friend, she was ahead, and I overtook her," said Slade.
But then, according to Slade, her Jack Russell terrier Aca jumped on her knee, pushing down the accelerator.
"I had to drag him off and throw him on to the back seat. I realised I was going fast. I was passing another vehicle. What was I supposed to do?"
When an unmarked police car signalled for her to pull over, she kept driving, because at first she didn't realise it was a police car.
"I thought they were blue and white," she said.
Slade says taking her licence or car off her won't stop her driving.
"What difference would it make if they took my licence from me?" she asked heraldsun.com.au.
"I'll just buy more cars and they can take them away, too. I could buy another one now just to fight this and cruise past the police station, and say, 'Here I am.'"
She said nothing would keep her from seeing her young lover, a woman she claims is half her age.
