The Spice Girls are set to reform for a performance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London, according to UK reports.

The five-piece band - Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm - has recently been dogged by rumours they are planning another comeback.

Chisholm has denied they are set to reform, insisting the 'Wannabe' hitmakers are all concentrating on their own projects, despite reuniting for a worldwide tour in 2007.

But the group's former Svengali, Simon Fuller, has told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper that a show at the sporting extravaganza may be a possibility.

He says, “They stand for so much in British music history and I can’t think of a better time for them to get back together for another performance. The demand for them as a band is as strong as ever.

“They will not want to be performing hits like 'Wannabe' in their 40s, but it’s amazing how often people talk about another reunion. And I think if they do it, it’s going to be in 2012.”
