Over 6,000 music fans have descended on the Tapapakanga Regional Park on the Firth of Thames for Splore, the festival that is held every two years.

Erykah Badu and Soul to Soul headline the weekend event, with organisers tossing up whether to put it on annually.

Ali Ikram joined the crowds.

This was my third Splore. In my opinion it is the best festival New Zealand has and I have been to a lot of them! I think it is a huge shame that this reporter chose to focus on this one man - I myself never once encountered any aggression over the three days I was there and to then finish the story with that distasteful angle - I think he completely missed the whole point of Splore! I would like to thank the organisers of Splore for putting on the best weekend I have had since the last one - bring on 2014.

that man was well within his rights to ask not to be filmed, typical of the media they ignored his legitimate request and continued to push him into being aggressive, then obviously edited footage to blow the situation out of proportion and once again show that peoples rights to privacy no longer matter to nthe news you just want to make money
