The Prime Minister has said New Zealand won't be welcoming the Sri Lankan asylum seekers

A boat of Sri Lankan asylum seekers is currently moored on the island of Bintan, 7000km away from New Zealand.

We asked a freelance cameraman in Bintan to talk to them.

It wasn’t easy – the boat they are on is constantly circled by marine police – but he did manage to speak to one man for a few precious seconds.

That man told us where they are heading, and why.

This is a true and honest man.Very few in the world.Have a read to know whats going on.

In reply to the news flash which came on news re boat people. It would good if proper checks are being made before asylum is granted,as they could be those who fled Sri Lanka when their leader was killed and they lost the war.Now they are trying to make a life because they cannot go back to Sri Lanka.

Human smuggling and drugs are LTTE's million dollar business. Recently LTTE has produced the film and handover to British c4 to telecast. I suspect they may have paid few million dollars to c4 to telecast it. in this way they can keep continue this business. Please visit to Sri Lanka and create the genuine production to telecast about country's current situation.

John Campbell should by now understand the matter of human smuggling with close connections to large drug syndicates. NZ economy is pumpping millions to eradicate drug business here and now legislating against most of the high end drugs. Why scuttle that? Refugees are the next big business to drugs. In fact Canada claims this ship was heading there. Then why the NZ interest for TV3! I am sure New Zealanders do not want the remifications of this saga.

Mr. Key is absolutely right on the issue. Although I am a NZ citizen now I had been living in Sri_Lanka for 38 years. I am closely following the all developments in there. The war ended a few years before and a massive development has been set about on all the affected parts of the country and country is now safe and free from ethnic hostilities. Boat migration is not a new phenomenon in Sri_Lanka. Even before the war was set out, both Sinhalese and Tamils used to ride on boat to reach countries like Italy, Norway, UK and recently Australia and Canada and claim political asylum on deceitful grounds. But New Zealand has never been a preference. The cost for such journey has been varying from NZD 15,000 – 25,000 per person regardless of the vessel they embark on. Although the fate is not guaranteed the fee needs to be settled before the journey. Looking at the size of the vessel it is quite obvious that they are rich economic migrants who are looking for a new pasture and showing banners are part of their plot; given Canada and UK had lit red lights for Sri_Lankan Tamil asylum seekers.

John Key should face up to the facts as presented by Campbell Live rather than making them up.The Tamil refugees cannot be "bad people" because they have fled from mass murder and genocide by the Singhalise government. John Key's mother fled from Hitler as the Nazis committed genocide against German & Austrian Jews. What is there about his history that John Key does not understand? New Zealand was rightly open to German and Austrian immigrants before World War 2. If Key was not so hypocritical he and New Zealanders would welcome a small number of Tamils also trying to escape certain death. I hope Campbell Live continue to try to educate us to try to change such utter prejudice in Godzone!

Hi, Nice to see what I thought was a reasonably balanced article on the cannabis question on your sister programme. The question certainly needs to be asked. I'm guessing you guys co-ordinate your content and followup is already in the pipe- (no pun intended, or is that night-?) line. You can't do that in one episode though - I think a couple of serious questions and areas of discussion were left untouched - perhaps you're saving them up for later: History (& Herstory): - reasons for prohibition might have referenced earlier history: - "reefer madness" - hemp vs. nylon Practical considerations for legalisation: - quality control requires govt-sanctioned growing environment: - to avoid lacing a la kronic phenazapram - provide labelling - "it's quite strong bro" doesn't really cut it - education about using cannabis - combining it with alcohol et al. not much talk about that (and the order and amount of consumption matters, I assure you - it's not like a stew) Macro vs. Micro view - what did organised crime do in the USA once alcohol prohibition was lifted...? I look forward to more public discussion on saving the economic future of the country with cannabis. (insert tui billboard, petrie fist pump etc. as per your current opinion...). Kind regards, Mark

It is very clear that these groups are trying to enter other countries illegally by posing as refugees. This is one aspect of human smuggling and it is the easiest way to pressurize countries to accept people when they are shown as refugees. It was revealed at a recent survey carried out on a few instances on "refugees from Sri Lanka" , that a fair percentage of them never originated in Northern Sri Lanka as claimed but were from Tamilnadu India and Malasia. They have paid large sums of money to Human smugglers who have promised them entry in to richer countries. The moment they boarded the boats their travel and identity documents were destroyed and were ordered to identify themselves as "individuals from Sri Lanka". Some others were found to be hard core terrorists who were found to be responsible for many crimes against humanity and are wanted by the judiciary yet were posing as “innocent refugees”. Some were posing as “spokesmen” for the groups with false identities and disguised with beards or bald heads!.
Sri Lanka has never had an intolerance to other ethnic groups. It is clear by the fact that the majority of Tamils lived among the Sinhalese population even during the height of LTTE atrocities and the ethnic distribution in Colombo (Commercial capital of Sri Lanka) has a larger percentage of Tamils than Sinhalese. Anybody visiting Sri Lanka now can see that all that is being depicted today as evidence against the country are fabricated lies to keep the portal of migration open for the interested parties to enter richer countries. It has been proved that the much spoken about Channel 4 Video "Killing fields of Sri Lanka" is a doctored documentary with non-verified material and false declaration from impostures who has had direct links with the terrorist organisation that had the dirtiest history of child recruitment, forced recruitment, using human shields, suicide attacks against civilian targets and mass scale ethnic cleansing by terror tactics and murder.
New Zealand should be very careful in this situation and should not allow her kind-heartedness be manipulated by a pack of liars.

I Absolutely agree with John Keys. These boat people have no right to bypass the system and just think they can arrive on our doorstep. Our quality of life is continually degrading due to all this type of rubbish. Our health system is stuffed. Our superannuation scheme that we have paid into all our lives is heading the same way. We do not have enough jobs for our own people who in some cases are living in abject poverty and not being looked after properly. Will you please stop stirring just to raise your ratings John Campbell and leave John Keys alone. He is trying to look after New Zealanders best interest. We don't want or need these boat people coming here and they need to be stopped before they try to cross the Tasman. The Captains of these ships are making a lot of money bringing these people here and if we except them then the floodgates will be opened. 5th Generation Kiwi
