John Carpenters The Thing came out the year I was born.

Now, 28 years later, comes the prequel.

Being a horror fan, I went to LA to meet the stars, including Erik Olsen who said preview screenings have gone down a right treat.

“People cheer… and that’s all you can ask for from a movie like this,” he says.

“I’ve done prequels before and I’ve watched it and gone, ‘What have we done?’”

Olsen is known mostly for comedy. He was recently spotted in Community, playing a stoner with tiny nipples.

“We tried all sorts – prosthetics – but in the end we just painted them on.”

Olsen says The Thing has much better special effects and that he enjoyed making a horror.
So did his co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who was last spotted in Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Now I should be talking more about the movie, but really, it is what it is; a monster movie.

The cast is what yanks my chain. Rounding it off is the guy who starred in not one, but two amazing TV shows; Oz and of course Lost.

“I’ll tell you what’s really good,w hen you go around the world and people who can’t speak a world of English quote Mr Eko,” says Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The Thing comes out in cinemas tomorrow.

If you like aliens and some frights, it’s well worth a trip to the local theatre.
