Police in South Auckland are so concerned about kids behaving badly this Halloween that they've launched an awareness campaign.
They're touring schools and handing out posters to those who don't want to be trick or treated, and getting dairy owners onboard.
Halloween is an exciting time for youngsters but police say disturbances always arise.
Sergeant Dexter Traill of the Counties Manukau Police said “It's very harrowing for a lot of our parents and for our older folk in the community to have a lot of younger people coming into their place, especially when there, when there's no one with them.”
The police are also warning shopkeepers about kids planning to make mischief and Sergeant Traill says “give police a call and we will attend.
But they are also urging youngsters not to put themselves in harm's way.
Sergeant Traill said “… and it's also about being responsible when we go to these places and keeping safe.”
They're encouraging anyone with concerns to download a poster from the police website to put in their window. You can find the links below this article.
The British etiquette experts Debrett's have stepped in with their own guide. If children are offered sweets, they say they mustn't be too greedy and must always say thank you. As for householders, they say it's perfectly acceptable to leave a bowl of treats on your doorstep so children can help themselves.”
