The serial sex offender who became known as the “Beast of Blenheim” has written to 3 News saying he has paid his penalty and just wants to get on with his life.
But Stewart Murray Wilson, or just plain Murray as he likes to be called, still appears to be in denial about his crimes. His response to our interview request was as follows.
"I feel that fairness, fact and truth are foremost important along with incentive to ensure that no further denigration take place against myself or my alleged victims as we all want to get on with our lives,” Wilson writes.
“I have paid the penalty imposed by society and now ask you to give any queries to my legal team. God bless and thank you."
Calling them "alleged victims" suggests he still denies any wrongdoing, which is consistent with the findings of a recent parole assessment.
The assessment refers to "Mr Wilson’s continued denial of responsibility for his offending and his refusal to engage in any programmes which could assist him in addressing his offending..."
Criminologist Greg Newbold says Wilson doesn't think he's done anything wrong.
“The fact that he's referred to them as his alleged victims suggests to me that in his mind they were going along with him and in his mind they colluded with him and the things that he did,” he says.
That's despite being convicted of sex offences against more than 20 victims over a 20-year period.
Mr Newbold says Wilson’s unlikely to reoffend because of his age, and because he knows if he re-offends he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
