New Zealand will field a powerful men's pursuit lineup at the world road cycling championships in the Netherlands next month.

BikeNZ unveiled most of its team to compete at the eight-day championships in Limberg from September 16 although the combination for the men's road race was still to be finalised.

Three-time world championship medallist Linda Villumsen represents a strong medal chance in the women's individual time trial, along with the men's team who comprise a number of well-performed Europe-based professionals.

Jesse Sergent and Sam Bewley, who were team pursuit bronze medallists at the London Olympics, will be joined by fellow-Olympian Jack Bauer, Julian Dean, Hayden Roulston and George Bennett.

All will be considered for the three spots New Zealand has qualified in the road race.

Olympian Greg Henderson was unavailable for selection after withdrawing with injury.

New Zealand selector Andy Reid said form and fitness would be assessed over the next week, with Bauer having endured a long season while Dean and Roulston were currently contesting the Tour of Spain.

Villumsen will want to improve on her performance at the Olympics, where she missed a time trial medal by just 1.8 seconds in finishing fourth.

She won time trial bronze medals at the 2010 and 2011 world championships and claimed silver in Copenhagen last year.

Villumsen will also contest the road race with a trio of young Auckland riders, Emily Collins, Emma Crum and Kate Chilcott.

New Zealand team:

Men's road race (three to be selected from): Jack Bauer, Julian Dean, Hayden Roulston, Jesse Sergent and George Bennett.

Road race: Sergent, Sam Bewley.

Women's road race: Linda Villumsen, Emily Collins, Emma Crum and Kate Chilcott.

Time trial: Villumsen.

Under-23 road race: Tom David, Josh Atkins, Tom Scully.

Time trial: Jason Christie plus Michael Vink or James Oram.
