A 17-year-old international student has been arrested after a teacher was stabbed at a west Auckland high school this morning.

The 50-year-old male teacher was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The man was stabbed about 11:40am in his classroom at Avondale College and the offender fled.

An associate of the alleged offender was also located at an address in Blockhouse Bay and is assisting police with the investigation.

The classroom was cordoned off and police were speaking to witnesses.

The teacher was taken to Auckland Hospital with injuries described as serious.

The stabbing shocked pupils and staff at the school and one staff member told NZPA they were "just trying to get our heads around what had happened".

It is not known if the offender was a pupil at the school.

The student should be purnished, but the police should dig deep what happened.

Now it makes sense that the Japanese teacher may have contributed himself for the attack by constant racial verbal attacks on the student.

The teacher was stabbed, but the real victim may be the student. The principal told media that there were no complaints made on the Japanese teacher. Is the principal telling the true? What if the student or his host famiy complained but relationship with the teacher never improved. Can you imagine what level of stress the student might have got? The student is the vurnerable here if it is the case.

Lets wait what the police come out with.

Presumably, having a knife with you implies a degree of premeditation?

Unknown, interesting story, but there really is no excuse to stab someone. End of story.

Maria, your writing is atrocious, there is no hope for our youth if they all write like that.

Stepping away from the fact that he stabbed teacher, would you guys be stressing about the fact that he's a foreign exchange student?
The teacher has obviously done something in order to receive this.

The media should try get both sides of the story.

And from personal experiences. He is not fond of Asians. Surprise surprise.

i really dont want to say anything but this is just killing me.

that teacher is brutally injured yes but what about the kid. i know for a fact that he's not on DRUGS.
If that teacher wasn't being racist all along, none of this would have happened. There's a limit you know. Imagine being a student and getting put down by your teacher about where you come from. yes maybe it was meant to be a joke but there's a limit and this teacher just totally crossed it. keeping every little things in for a very long time will result in a massive breakdown. im sure it wasnt his intention at all. it happened so fast.
im not saying he's right for stabbing his teacher. im not saying the teacher is wrong. all i want to say is please dont judge this kid and jump to conclusion. there might be more to it then you'd think.

I agree though that he should be sent back. but please he's having a tough time realising what he did. There's a million of things running in his head im sure he must be feeling at his worse. please leave him be.

Deport the primitive animal back to his own country to STAY. It is obvious he was setting out to kill the teacher/parent, if we allow this preposterous behaviour to pass with nothing but a light punishment then what message are we inflicting upon society
