John Key's alleged favourite cup

A Victoria University hostel has billed a student for selling a coffee cup used by the Prime Minister on auction site TradeMe.

After John Key visited Weir House on July 21, resident Jackson Freeman swiped his cup and listed it on TradeMe as "a chance at prosperity".

The auction closed on August 3, and after a fake bid of $5000 was removed, the cup had a top bid $20.

But Weir House had since billed Mr Freeman $23.95 the price paid for the cup, leaving him worse off than he started, student magazine Salient reported.

Mr Freeman had relisted "John Key's Favourite Cup" on the website an effort to pay the bill, which he said he felt was overpriced for a standard hostel mug.

At least he wasn’t thrown out of the hostel half way through term and faced with the hassle of finding a new place. Perhaps Mr Freeman thinks it OK to steal something and sell it on.
Regardless of the value of the object it is still theft and I don’t think I’d want to employ someone with Mr Freeman’s views on taking what doesn’t belong to them.
