I was also taught by Mr. Warren and I thought he was very tired of teaching. He never smiled in class and always seemed to be stressed out. He frequently complained about a Japanese student called Francis who did not like to answer his questions even though he new the answers. This really seemed to upset Mr. Warren who would belittle Francis with putdowns. He went on holiday a few years ago and when he came back He was nice for a few weeks. Then he went back to his old stessed out ways when he had to do all the NCEA forms and our reports. I think he was just tired of doing all the paperwork that teaching requires. It is really sad that Avondale college does not have a better system to manage the teachers stress.

Although the principal is trying not to put his reputation down to the hill, not many international students would want to attend Avondale college. He will lose school reputation, as well as the money from inernational students. They pay far much more than PR, thats how some colleges can run well.
What goes around and comes around.

It is ovbiously wrong what Chung did, however NZPA should investigate properly that what makes him to do it.

I agree with dd dd.
the principle is lying all the way! The korean guy has been attending avondale college for at least one year, many students have seen him around school last year, also that some students have sent letters to complain about warren's behaviour, but school have totally ignored them. The principle just want to keep the school's reputation and doesn't even care for this young person's life.

Of course principal Brent Lewis "did not know of dave warren's behaviour", Lewis cares more about his schools reputation over the integrity and honesty of any situation. He stated in a previous statement that Tae Won Chung had only been in the school for two months, however this was a lie and he had been attending Avondale College for over a year. This is not just a "one off bizzare" incident as Brent Lewis says. Last year an arrest was made; Francis Glenski, a teacher/girls soccer coach who turned out to be a pedofile and was charged for filming international students and his own daughters under the age of 16 whilst in the shower. Stabbing a teacher wasn't the way to solve a problem but from the previous comments said by ex students i can understand why he did it. Nobody likes to be constantly taunted or racially mocked especially when lewis is taking sides. If youre reading this Brent Lewis i hope youve learn't a valuable lesson from this incident.

I hosted a student last year that attended Avondale College. I lodged a complaint with the Board of Trustees about the actions of a teacher, towards this student, and it was white washed. I certainly do not hold with the actions of this student attacking a teacher, however I think Avondale College could well do with having someone attend some of these classes to see how our International Students are treated. I also informed the ERO of the teachers treatment of my student.

I am a former student of Avondale college who just so happened to be taught by Mr. Warren and although I feel bad that he was stabbed I am not suprised. I myself used to have constant "run-ins" with Mr. Warren which is why I chose to drop his class. While I was in his class, I would witness japanese students recieving derogatory comments for not being able to fluently understand or speak Japanese, and plenty of students would be the target of mockery. Something of which was not unheard of in his class. Other authoritative figures at the school may not have been made aware but it does not meen that it didn't take place. I think people should hear both sides of the fence. Mr. Warren's classroom was not exactly an ideal learning environment.

I'd hate to be in a foriegn country where the teacher racially attacks students. No reason to stab him, but completely unacceptable.

I know this school, very well intergrated. Whatever this student was trying to prove, he failed. Action and consequence.

One-off incident? I remember there was one last year where a student was stabbed by a fellow student at Avondale College.

Anyhow, pathetic that the 'race-card' is attemped to be played in this matter.
