The polytech at the centre of a pay dispute with staff is calling for them to halt industrial action if they want to strike a deal.

Around 300 students at Auckland's Unitec have had classes cancelled or exams postponed since strikes began two months ago.

Now the Unitec Students Association is considering legal action after striking teachers decided to withhold students' marks.

Unitec chief executive Rick Ede has apologised to students for the disruption and is urging staff to delay further strikes.

Mr Ede says Unitec will meet with staff to discuss pay matters next week.
