Students will get a chance to ask politicians the tough questions at today’s Tertiary Education Election Forum.

The New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations (NZUSA) is holding the forum, which will feature representatives from National, Labour, the Green Party, ACT and Mana.

NZUSA co-president David Do says the forum is a chance for students to get informed about the issues that affect them.

“We want to ensure students are informed about what is on offer from the political parties in order to use their vote wisely,” he says.

“It’s important that the political parties know what students think about these issues and have policies that address them.”

The forum will be held at St John’s in the City in Wellington, and begins at 11.50 this morning.

an ambush really, The 'students' asking the questions will be part of the student union hirearchy and union/labour friendly (with protest/banner waving inside and out of meeting)...what a surprise eh? No matter, national will still win next month easy so they will send a junior MP to field questions and Labour will send a senior MP..blah blah blah...bill has passed, get over it guys. Labour are in opposition for next 3yrs and you know it...probably 6! (with their union backed labour/employment policy)...can't you all see NZ is NOT INTERESTED?

Lets face facts. This National Government has halved apprenticeships, closed night classes, reduced funding for and access to polytechnics and Universities, reduced funding for Early Childhood Education and cut $146 million from work skills training and attempted to impose unworkable medieval national standards onto schools. How is it going to be possible for this country to recover from a Recession or develop a modern economy if this government is doing away with the infrastructure whereby people are able to upskill or develop new skills with which to be able to compete internationally with our business rivals. Great stuff.

Watch out students, National will drop subsidy's for tertiary education making your loans bigger and/or limiting places for kiwis even more. National dont give a sh*t about kiwis, its cheaper to bring in foriegners who are already qualified. Why do you think their lackeys have taken out the unions? Watch them take off the kid gloves if/when they get another 3 years.

Thats simplicity in itself, ask National why they have severely limited University spots, the answer is so that they can sell spare places off to overseas students. However Nationals response will be, we want students to have relevant degrees... which is bollocks, National are limiting student places and making access only available to elite families so that they can sell off seats that would have gone to underpriveledged New Zealanders. And who are they selling them too? rich overpriveledged Foreign brats.
