Despite slogging it out at the gym, it seems many Kiwis aren't satisfied with their bodies and the results of exercising for hours on end.
In a world obsessed with image, there are many ways to shed the kilos, and Dave Pratt has tried them all.
From the circuit class where gym-goers clap and carry on with religious fervor, to the machines where the abdominals are crunched to breaking point.
But for all the slog he's putting in, Dave's not getting the results he wants. When he looks in the mirror his eyeline drifts south.
"I see a bloke that's obviously worked out, but it's just the wobbly bit around the middle and I just really want to get rid of it," he says. "That's what you call the tyre. That's the tyre for me, that's the area that I want to get rid of."
But now dermatologist Dr Mark Gray is offering a procedure to get that perfect body without doing all the hard work.
In just a few hours he can suck the fat out of those squishy areas to reveal the muscle beneath.
Dave's podge is something Dr Gray has been desperate to get his hands on.
Using a new process called high definition lipo-selection, Dr Gray says he can remove Dave's stubborn fat deposits and leave him with a trim and toned result.
"You're taking but you're also leaving," he explains. "Liposuction traditional liposuction is about thinning, taking a big thing and making it smaller. But this is much more about but this is much more about creating a beautiful shape."
After weeks of sleeping on it, Dave agreed to have the surgery done.
"It's a personal choice and I like a good body," Dave says. "I'm sure a lot of people do. It's for me to get rid of it.
And for those wondering why he doesn't just work harder at the gym, Dr Gray says no amount of crunches could get him the six-pack he so desperately wants.
"With David he would probably have to lose body fat down to about six or seven percent before he would acquire that type of definition," Dr Gray explains. "And to do that he would probably lose a lot of fat in his face and other areas. He would look gaunt and he wouldn't look well."
From flab to fabulous, the operation is set down for three-and-a-half hours.
Dave is placed under general anesthetic and his head, arms and legs covered.
After he's plugged up, the poking and prodding begins.
The white gloves get to work on the fatty deposits, using an ultrasonic probe to vaporize the fat.
Once the vaporizing is complete, it's time to get sucking.
As the unsavory concoction of blood, fat and saline solution is sucked out, definition slowly takes shape.
The price for the surgery ranges from $3,000 for the basics, to $25,000 for the works.
While it may seem like the cheat's way to get a body, Dr Gray argues it's good for the self esteem too.
"Once he's done this he'll maintain it," Dr Gray says. "He'll go to the gym, he'll feel really positive about himself and he's into a whole different way of life there."
