A teenage student from Northland has, allegedly, sold her virginity to pay her university fees.

We are told she's 19, and that she calls herself 'Unigirl'.

The website at the centre of it all is ineed.co.nz, and its directors claim the winning bid was over $45,000.

Whatever you think of the morality of this transaction, it has put a website few of us had ever even heard of on the map.

Indeed, the story has made headlines around the world – Australia, Britain, the US, Asia, you name it.

But - we began to wonder, is this all just a brilliant marketing stunt? Does 'Unigirl' really exist?

Remember, ineed.co,nz is competing against TradeMe - New Zealand's most successful website, by a mile – so ineed.co.nz needed profile.

Campbell Live set off for Hamilton to find the two men behind it.

If I became a prostitute to pay off a debt, would the media run a story on me? Because that's all the girl is doing. No big deal. It's legal.

How about investigating something truly newsworthy like the banking system creating money out of thin air and lending that out at interest! Have never heard a word about this incredible SCAM on any mainstream news service. Why is that???

They need to make their site look half decent before I start using it. It looks crap.

The biggest scam of all could be if she is even a virgin. There is nothing to stop me aged 25 going onto all the over 50 sites saying 'toyboy wants to lose virginity with you for a price'. I don't reveal who I am to anyone (the girls that have had sex with me wouldn't of course know I am claiming to be a virgin). I then have sex with some woman of 60 and sail off into the sunset with $50000. Sounds very appealing...

You fell into the trap and gave them 100,000s of dollars of advertising for free!

Did the trademe website pay for this article? Sure seems like it, especially considering the amount of press you've given them in the past..

"<i>For another $40,000 She should sell her story to TV3 :)</i>"...

Well for that kind of money the broadcasting of the virginity being taken should be broadcast live...:-)

What's with attempting to ambush people on their doorsteps? What an embarrassing excuse for journalism from a generally well done programme.

is this the sort of investigative journalism that has the Campbell show being told to improve or be canceled? This show has gone to crap since Carol left.
