Finlay Babbage knows a thing or two about gardening, and over the past few months he has been growing fruit and vegetables from his Hamilton home.
He has also taken his wares to kindy, and now all the kids are growing things.
Yes, kindy - Finlay is just four, and for his services to gardening, he has taken out a major award.
Inside his scrapbook are not pictures of Transformers, dinosaurs and rugby players, but vegetables.
The scrapbook tells the story of a small boy with a big green thumb who has taken his garden from humble beginnings to headline news.
Like most childhood dreams, Finlay's began in the bedroom with seedlings on the dresser by the window.
Soon his garden was heading out of the bedroom and into the backyard and today, despite the camera and the strange reporter, this slighty nervous boy let go of mum's hand to take Campbell Live for some major show-and-tell.
With his home garden ticking along nicely, Finlay took his veges to kindy. Today the walls are plastered with literature and the kids are busy growing.
From a seedling in his bedroom to a small gardening movement, the judges could not look past Finlay when he entered the Great New Zealand Grow-Off competition. There were 900 entries, the bulk of them adults.
For his big win, Finlay picked up a made to measure t-shirt and a trip to the Ellerslie Flower Show, where he mixed it with 75,000 other gardening nuts.
And out of all the exhibits, he most wanted to see the Venus Fly Traps.
Back in Hamilton, Finlay returns to where he most feels comfortable - in his own garden, toiling away, keeping his family fed.
With his little sister Zoë showing keen interest too, do not be surprised if one day you are sinking your teeth into Finlay and Zoë Babbage produce.
