Destiny Church is reportedly planning to build its own ‘town’ in South Auckland.

Self-styled ‘Bishop’ Brian Tamaki is understood to have told his New Year’s Eve ‘MegaService’ in Rotorua the church had secured resource consent to build schools, a university and a massive auditorium.

Tamaki’s supporters reportedly rose and cheered as Tamaki told them he had signed a contract.

“We can do anything we want – we can build it.”

Does Destiny Church's influence concern you?

The revelation comes despite the church denying it had plans to build an exclusive housing area for members in South Auckland.

In 2008, a 3 News investigation uncovered a piece of land the church had put a conditional offer on.

But at the time, owners of the property in Wiri refused to confirm they were in negotiations and no one from Destiny Church would appear on camera.

At a conference that same year Tamaki outlined his vision.

“From zero right till when you are a hero in heaven, we’ll track your education, we’ll track you right through.”

He then asked the thousands who had gathered to consider selling their homes and moving to Auckland to fulfil the great purpose of God.

"All I need is every single person in this room in their heart to say yes, I would strongly urge you to go home and think about it and talk about it with your spouse.”

Tamaki is now believed to be appealing for donations to help fund the town.

"Much of your seed is going to go toward the foundations of an offering toward our promised land, and that beginning is not going to come without a fruitful start financially,” he told the New Year’s Eve service.

Destiny Church will lease the property until its Mt Wellington headquarters have sold, at which point it will have the option of purchasing the land.

Destiny church has never been a closed church and never will be all of you saying we will build walls to block people out what a joke. I use to work for an exclusive bretheren church company and we were not allowed to eat in the same room as there church members or talk to them about anything other than work as they believed we were of the world and could be a bad influence. They believed electronic equipment was evil and you could only get in there church(through security gates)if you were a member and i can tell you now they are far more well off than Bishop Tamaki they have there own sub divisions that only church members can live but because they keep quiet in there corner no one says anything about them.

Would you rather live next to a mob member, a drug dealer, a house full of crazy teenagers or a Destiny Church member? Really people and 3 news get a clue... step outside your own polluted minds and actually have a look at the issue. A religious organisation is developing a property... just like the Catholics, Mormons, Buddhists and Muslims. How many temples have you seen erected in South Auckland in the last few years? If you arent losing money or being effected whats your problem? Destiny Members are stoked about this news, we've been contributing towards this for a long time and know the commitment that follows... dont worry about OUR/GODS money... we want our man blessed for his works! Im sorry as great as Bishop is... he aint brainwashing 10,000 people YEP thats right!!! he has 10,000 people who know his true worth... I hope you all find something better to spend your time on! If you need something to do check out our website for a list of church locations and hope to see you there!!! because unlike 'Cults' we dont hide in the bush or deserted areas - EVERYONE is welcome. Be Blessed!

Anyone with that kind of power over people, is worth watching. Could be real, but I don't trust anyone who will get so many to follow his lead, especially when they already have taken on such a powerful title. Pakeha or Maori? I hadn't really thought about him as either, just someone welding a lot of influence.

Back in the early 2000's, Mr. and Mrs Tamaki got their hands on $450,000, The people that lent that money to him and her in the mid-'90s, was on the understanding that it was to be used to purchase a block of land in Rotorua for the construction of a church in Rotorua. Has this ever been given back? Do a search for Brian Tamaki and see what come sup.

@gert, Are you joking? I don't know if you believe in this "destiny church", but if he was pakeha it wouldn't make any difference what so ever. Do you really believe that majority of our country (whom in general have a similar opinion on this egotistical self-proclaimed bishop), are that racist as to think "it's not right that he has money because he's not pakeha". Wise up man, honestly most people are not racist and are genuinely concerned that this man is a fraud. Saying "most white people are scared of influential maori leaders" is bollocks. You sir need to stop being so narrow minded with making huge generalizations. the truth is most white people are scared of influential maori leaders with fat pockets alltowns in nz startd charimatic religous roots, if he wer pakeha hed be fine

Tamaki is the original sideshow Charlie but with a far more dangerous agenda. He has nothing to do with living a Christ filled life and everything about self-agrondicement. He is an empire builder who wouldn't know True Christianity if it bit him on the butt.
