Two Taranaki women appeared in New Plymouth District Court yesterday on 60 charges between them of supplying or offering methamphetamine for supply.
Sharon Haami, 39, faced 41 charges and Hineata Wipiti, 25, faced 19. Both women were from Waitara and were known to each other.
The pair did not enter pleas and were remanded on bail to reappear on January 21.
New Plymouth drug squad head Detective Sergeant Greg Gray said the women were arrested after an investigation by Waitara police targeting suspected drug dealers.
Police were concerned about the methamphetamine trade because of the drug's potential to cause harm to people and families, he said.
There would be no let-up in the war on methamphetamine dealers in the region, Mr Gray warned.
"From the police perspective, if we get a line on someone or people involved in the methamphetamine trade we will follow it through because of the destructive nature of the drug," he told the Taranaki Daily News.
Mr Gray said police intelligence suggested much of the drug was being brought into the region, however methamphetamine laboratories had been found in the province.
