Students and teachers at Waipahihi primary school in Taupo have recreated the Olympic rings to celebrate the London games.
“We wondered what we could do as a whole school to acknowledge and celebrate the Olympic games and we wanted to do something different so we thought if we got the kids to dress up in the five colours of the Olympic rings we’d see if we could recreate them,” says principal Helen Malcolm.
She says they were eager to document their feat too.
“One of our dads is manager of MacEntee Hire and he suggested he bring along a cherry picker so we could take a photo, and one of the teachers went up to take it,” she says.
The school is using the games for “integrated learning”.
“All the classes are using the Olympic Games as a theme for their learning. They’re all enquiring into the different sports and the different countries, talking about sporting ethic and watching with interest the medal tallies,” says Ms Malcolm.
Waipahihi school has around 500 students, from year one through to year six.
