A Wellington McDonalds is looking like a bombsite this morning after a taxi ploughed through the Taranaki St branch, but staff are still serving up breakfast.

Just after 2am this morning a sedan crashed into the dinning area of the 24-hour restaurant and straight into a 49-year-old customer.

The customer - who was one of two in the store - went flying across the counter and then became trapped beneath the debris.

McDonalds manager, Maurice Rose, says they've spent most of the morning cleaning up.

“There’s no doors of course, the whole front is gone – its like a walk in,” he says.

The customer hasn't been so lucky - he's been taken to hospital with serious injuries to his leg - and the taxi driver is being treated for shock.
