The long awaited release of the new Apple Tablet is here. I'm no apple fanboy/girl at all but I do respect that they have a great products - usually of a fairly high standard and easy interface.
Not everyone wants to use Linux or Windows and Mac is a nice in-between. With the release of the iPad I have spent a good deal of the day reading up documents, tech specs, and Googling pictures.
In a Nutshell, it’s a giant iPhone or iPod, depending what you pay. It runs the same operating system, uses the same apps and works in the exact same way.
The difference is that you can read it better and its more usable because of its size. Considering I mostly use my iPhone as a PDA for eBooks, Twitter, Facebook, browsing plus some games, that's not entirely a bad thing.
I think most people use their iPhone and iPod more for things application related than phone or music related, and this may be a viable option for some.
The price is rather expensive, and size rather large for it to be used as just an iPhone however, this could give it some limitations, but I can easily see this replacing netbooks and similar.
The only drawback is the same one all Apple products suffer from, price.
They cost less than the iPhone, but not by much! At a whopping $799 for the lower end 16GB version you may need to think twice, or even three times before buying.
Not only that but you will have to wait until March for the WIFI version and April for the 3G version.
So whilst the anti-apple users will say its stupid, not worthy and nothing new, I believe it will take off rather quickly and as usual, I believe it will be a valuable tool for children playing games, eBook readers and similar. The only major gripe I have is the name, iPad? This reminds me of the old iPad skit.
I'm fairly sure adding the 'i' in front of everything is now seriously over abused and dead. Rather like adding the version number 2.0 to something (iSnack?).
Summery: Great product, extremely lame name. I will probably end up buying one at some stage :)
