Mark Wahlberg's shocking new R-rated comedy Ted has stunned Hollywood by over-performing at the box office on its opening weekend.
The film, in which The Fighter star plays sidekick to a foul-mouthed teddy bear, has debuted at number one with a stunning US$54.1 million three-day take, breaking The Hangover's box office record for the biggest R-rated opening in the US.
Male stripper movie Magic Mike also enjoyed success at the US box office, debuting at number two with US$39.2 million in ticket sales.
Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection also had a strong opening weekend, making US$26.3 million.
