Teenage girls assaulted by 50-year-old on mobility scooter

A Whangarei man has been charged with assaulting two teenage girls with his mobility scooter.
  
Police say the 14-year-old girls were playing on Kensington Park yesterday afternoon when the 50-year-old allegedly drove at them - knocking one girl over.

She suffered bruising to her leg and arm.

The man will appear in Whangarei District Court on Monday.

Karl, until we know the full story it could very well be something else. I talk from having a friend who is physically disabled and uses one, who has run into a person who was assaulting him. Tough guy, assaulting a disabled man. So, we cannot really know the full story from a small sound bite article.

Regardless Alien, it is assault with a weapon, i have seen this sort of thing first hand, it happened to an elderly employee of mine, he was rammed several times because he wouldnt move aside, he had nowhere to move to but the guy on the scooter rammed him 3 times, if i done that with my car i would be locked up.
It is time for a new law covering these things, i have also seen them on busy roads in the wrong lane, some of the elderly riding them think they can get away with this carry on, grandpa racers....
