A 17-year-old is alleged to have used a pistol to rob a Ngaruawahia dairy with the help of two younger accomplices.

The youth appeared in Hamilton District Court today charged with aggravated robbery, stealing a car and theft.

Police say he was helped by two 14-year-olds, one who was alleged to have carried a knife into the dairy on Monday evening and stole cash and cigarettes, and another who acted as a lookout. Both had been referred to Youth Aid.

A 63-year-old dairy owner was forced to the ground during the robbery and the three teens fled in a car, mounting a footpath to avoid road spikes, before it crashed.

The police do wonderful work but from there everything goes downhill mighty fast. Our justice system is softer than soft.
