The Prime Minister must be smiling after the latest 3 News/Reid Research poll found that if an election were held today, National could govern alone.

John Key is also proving more popular with voters despite more criticism over the Sky City deal, a run of job losses and the closure of schools in Christchurch.

Its Achilles' heel however remains a lack of viable and reliable coalition partners.

3 News political editor Patrick Gower takes a look at the problems facing the Opposition – watch the video.

The only reason this guy is smirking is many New Zealanders still unaware that the biggest percentage of Non National voters or non voters in rentals or even their own homes can no longer afford or do NOT have landlines. If Reid or Comar Brunton had the cohones or ethical regard for accuracy they would text or cellphone numbers or conduct street polls outside supermarkets. Mind you since so many have only pre-pay that is also what Crosby Textor 'bank on to show only Spindoctored selective skew' Teflon definitely wearing off smiling assassin given the conversations I have been having while collecting more Anti Assets Sales signatures..

@RA I have to admit that John Key has been caught out in more porkpies than any former Prime Minister. People who believe anything the man says have to be truly idiotic. Didn’t know anything about the BMW deal, had never been informed about Kim Dot com, knew nothing about the GCSB investigation, and has created 170,000 new jobs with unemployment still hovering at record highs. Seriously, people who believe this chump deserve all the garbage that he chucks at them. Beneficiaries are the main problem with this country according to John Key even though empirical evidence shows it’s actually the wealthy that are the biggest problem, the ones who are stealing billion’s per year from the economy (facts his own government has released). Yet did TV3 do a story on that when the figures were released last week? Nope because Patrick Gower and Duncan Garner are Keys mates and Key forgave a 40 Million dollar debt TV3 owed to the tax payers.

'Anil' don't worry - as people mature they move from being lazy victim socialist, with victim mentalities and expecting hand outs to being responsible and mature citizens who know that working hard is the best way to contribute to the economic recovery in NZ. The average Kiwi knows that National are the best option to steer us through difficult times. They also know that Key is the best PM we have had.

He is so, cock sure of himself, let him give it ago ,and have a election in June just for him to get his eyes back into his face.It is good how the polls get taken as the Nats start to lose ground, these polls are a jack up as they seem to come more often than they ever did. Just like his Valentines day poll showed.

Yeah, appears only people who'd vote against him are TV3 website commenters.

Anything is better than a looney left mixture of Shearer/Norman/Harawira. The exodus to Aus would get a whole lot bigger if that happened.

The left moan ans whinge so much no wonder voters are turned off them. The left really make people sick with their puerile 'politics' - they are anti-progress and just plain nasty. Socialist love to moan, complain, expect state handouts don’t take personal responsibility, they love to stay in victim mode and for the state to think for them as they are incapable themselves. Socialism as practiced by the left here is corrupt and anti business. No wonders so many Kiwis keep polling the Nats. so high.
