The Westpac worker whose decimal point mistake gave a former Rotorua service station owner a $10 million dollar overdraft is expected to meet with her bosses today.

She is to be accompanied by representatives from the Finsec Union - with reports at the weekend suggesting her job is in danger.

Leo Gao had applied for a $100,000 overdraft, but was mistakenly given the $10 million dollar facility, and managed to transfer 3.8 million into overseas accounts.

He later fled to Asia with his girlfriend Kara Hurring and was last known to be in China

It is the Operation fault department. Why does a teller her permission to increase a line of credit 100 times over the original limit. This does not make since to me. They need to review and change their procedural manuals immediately.

I actually thought that in the early days of this coming to light, that her bosses/managers said that her job was not at risk? And as already mentioned, what about the supervisor who signed it off at the time?

Appaling ? ? ? What happened to culpability? It IS the Correct Action to take, They (he/she) need to loose their possition. All these "Touchy Feely" P.C. modern world Situations encourage people to be more Lax. Any employer MUST HAVE the right to terminate employment of a person , otherwise most would go to the Wall.
In this situation it has Cost the Bank ,(in turn its Clients) But the person having been in Error gets to Stay , I should think not!
Ooh by the way , I'm also in favour of Capital Punishment and smacking for parental control.
When will the worm turn ? please hurry ! !

I think its appalling that this teller is having to fight for her job. And certainly, if she goes, then so should her supervisor who signed off on this or at least missed the error. If he/she doesn't get the boot then neither should the teller. People make mistakes - this is certainly "up there" in the mistakes department but she should not be fired. Chrissy
