A sheriff's official says no bodies have been found at a Texas farmhouse where a person claiming to be a psychic told officials multiple bodies were buried.
Liberty County Sheriff's Captain Rex Evans says there is no indication of bodies being anywhere on the rural property about 70 miles northeast of Houston.
Officials say the sheriff's office had received two calls from a person who said dismembered bodies would be found. Evans says authorities took the tip seriously in part because the caller had details about the interior of the house that only someone who had seen it could have known.
He says authorities now have a name and number for the caller and are working to track them down.
Liberty County Judge Craig McNair says deputies who made an initial inspection of the house on Tuesday found blood on a back door and detected a foul odour coming from the house.
A search warrant was obtained and further inspection of the property revealed nothing out of order.
A neighbour identified the home under investigation as that of Joe Bankson.
Bankson and his wife are long-haul truck drivers, and had left their residence on Sunday headed for Georgia.
Bankson told KHOU-TV that blood was on the porch and in the house because of a suicide attempt a couple of weeks ago made by his daughter’s former boyfriend, a US soldier currently in a military psychiatric ward in Killeen.
"He got drunk and cut his wrist," Bankson said. "It took me all day to clean the inside of the house. I'm not sure I got it all".
The foul odour was found to be coming from piles of rotting garbage.
Bankson told the Houston Chronicle that he was confused by the reports.
“I haven’t killed anybody,” said Bankson. "And I have a lot of friends, but I haven't helped anybody bury any bodies".
