That's Handy

Wed, 05 Aug 2009 12:00a.m.
One of the things that has continually surprised me throughout our wedding planning journey is how many of our friends and family are in 'the business'.

Let me elaborate.

Photographer
Our photographer is FH's stepfather! And what a relief, because he knows us and knows how much we both hate posing for photos. I guarantee we'll be a whole lot more relaxed on the day knowing he's behind the camera. And as an added bonus, he'll be there from start to finish – no fake cutting of the cake for us!

Celebrant(s)

My aunt and uncle are so excited to be our celebrants. They have officiated every family wedding and funeral that I can recall, so I've seen them in action on a number of occasions, and know they're going to do an awesome job! And it'll be that much more special to have them right beside us on our big day (rather than some stranger from the Blue Rinse Brigade)!

Caterers

As mentioned in an earlier blog, the caterers are good family friends.

We've enjoyed their food on a number of occasions, so have no doubt that the meal is going to be delicious! And it means I can email them with all sorts of silly questions and special requests without feeling like too much of a bridezilla.

Hire Goods
One of the coaches at FH's rugby club happens to work for an event hire company, and has been roped in to help us out with arranging everything we need (tables, chairs, glassware etc!). Hopefully we'll score mates rates here too...

Alcohol
We're currently exploring the option of having wines from my sister's good friend's family vineyard – Martinborough Sav anyone? I reaaaally hope this will work out, as it'd be a really nice touch to have everyone drinking great wine and be able to appreciate the special connection it has to us.

Florist
Would you believe it – another family friend! Mum and Dad have known our florist for years, and she produces beautiful bouquets. And we can rest safe in the knowledge that she's going to choose the absolute freshest most gorgeous flowers she can for our big day.

Cars
Also mentioned in a previous blog – our wedding cars are courtesy of my bestie's work (more mates’ rates, yay!) I have no doubt that without the help of all of these friends and family, our big day wouldn't be half as special as its shaping up to be! (And it may not have been half as cheap either lol!) I can sum it all up with two words – that's handy!!!
Bargain Bride - Wendy B

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?
