Scroll down to see a full list of the nominations.

The nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards have been announced and, as expected, Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the pack.

James Cameron’s 3D sci-fi spectacular Avatar and his ex-wife’s Iraq War thriller The Hurt Locker each have nine nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.

Kiwi short Six Dollar Fifty Man did not qualify for a nomination for Best Short Film (Live Action) this year but may be nominated for next year's awards.

New Zealand director Jane Campion’s film Bright Star did get a nod, however - Janet Patterson is on the Best Costume Design shortlist for her work on that film.

Sir Peter Jackson's latest film The Lovely Bones only received one nomination which was Stanley Tucci for Best Supporting Actor.

District 9, the critically acclaimed South African sci-fi that Jackson produced, received nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Visual Effects.

Wellington's Weta team got nods for their work on Avatar and District 9, and Kiwi sound recordist Tony Johnson and set decorator Kim Sinclair feature in the team nominations for best sound mixing and best art direction respectively.
