SpellSpellSpell-‘Let Go’ feat Rizvan
Let Go feat Rizvan by Spell is the top pick for this week and rightly so. The tune has an early 90's Bone Thugs, Eazy E feel. Rizvan's soulful voice compliments the beat as he builds an ode to 'eff it'. If it's out of your control then don't stress it. The chorus goes, 'when all your worries and troubles start to get inside your mind, son I think i's time for you to let go', something mostly everyone can relate to I suspect.
Diaz Grimm – ‘Gold Chain Swing’ feat. PNC
Great track by Diaz Grimm and PNC; it is lyrically sharp as usual, but what stands out here is the production end by CTFD (Calm The F*%# Down). Yes okay, if you keep making beats like this, I will.
Laybaq – ‘Beat For The Street’ feat. Tha Movement
'Call it what you want but ain't no place like home.' Number three takes the countdown to Mangere and Otara. Reminiscent of a Westside Connection mixtape you can tell summer is on its way and everyone's ready for it. It isn't until you get to the end of the video and realize you WERE just in a Westside Connection scenario, (or your ears were anyway) that Beat For The Street will get you to summer in a relaxed fashion.
Merf – ‘Ride With You’ feat. Mikey Mayz, Xy & Ahorangi
This track sounds American, but not in a bad way. The quality of the voices, singing and rapping, lace together with the production and beat to sound like something off Hot 97; as if Angie Martinez is about to call it out before she does Mary J Blige's, R.Kelly's, or Jagged Edge's new hit. That's it, quality wise the song stands out for me overall this week.
Big Sima – ‘Gotta Go’
Big Sima handles the beat lyrically just as he does the subject on Gotta Go. He's saying too bad if you don't like it, he's doing it, and he is doing it well. The track is a slick, honest, up-tempo spoon of lemon with no salt for the partners of hip hop stars who could relate to the women in the intro as she asks her man who would want a husband who disappears all the time, still, he's just gotta go babe.
