Still from The Angels' Share

Still from The Angels' Share

By Kate Rodger

After intoxicating film festival audiences globally, British director Ken Loach pours us all a cinematic tumbler of his latest single malt.

A gaggle of no-hoper Glaswegians, who narrowly escape incarceration for their latest crimes, are thrown together for community service.

Their minder's love of whiskey proves contagious, and will have a very definitive affect on them all, particularly first-time father-to-be Robbie.

Amidst much dry Scottish hilarity, we follow them on a very unexpected journey.

The Angels' Share is a deliciously tasty wee dram of a film, a charming tale of friendship, redemption and whiskey, and it entirely won me over.

A fresh most excellent cast helped wash it all down nicely.

Four stars.
