The Anti-Christ mas

Tue, 15 Dec 2009 9:33a.m.
Not really sure what happened last week, the best of intentions let me down and all of a sudden I was propelled into this week and here we are.

The ‘dress saga’ is still doing my head in- with no apparent resolution in sight, the invitations are late (and guests are meant to be RSVPing in a month!?), we’ve had to chase up geographically challenged Groomsmen in getting their measurements to us (why do the simplest of tasks take the longest?), I’m on my 8th day of straight work (with 4 more to go before my next day off) and poor FH is on about his 24th (seriously), Our cars stuffed, the gear box has shat itself (goodbye, 2 grand), we are passing like ships in the night, our cats struggle to recognize us and the long overdue house spring clean has now somehow slipped into summer and the housework is piling up, oh and least I forgot its friggen Christmas in 10 days.

Ugh.

We definitely aren’t feeling the Christmasy spirit this year, neither of us have any holidays, we’re working like demons, $ is tight and it just feels like this year it’s in the way, insignificant and well, boring in a-been-there-done-that kind of way?

(How cool would it be if we could change Christmas to the middle of the year, in the middle of winter when it’s all cold, miserable and quiet we can have a fun celebration to look forward, swap presents and play games, drink mulled wine and have turkey food comas whilst snuggling in front of the open fire with friends and family.

It would also have the added benefit of giving us a proper kiwi summer holiday at the end of the year- a time for baches, beaches, bbq’s, bevvys and more, without having to battle it out in the hot stickiness with your fellow xmas shoppers in busy malls and stores, looking to buy more useless crap that someone probably doesn’t need and you probably can’t afford.

Not to mention that summer is the ‘high wedding season’ and with loads of weddings, parties and general summer social events surely it makes more sense to have Christmas in the winter when the people need and want some holiday cheer?

What do you think? Reckon it would work? The whole ‘Winter Christmas’ and ‘Summer Holiday’ seems to work really nicely for the Northern Hemisphere? Surely we can move it?!

After all Easter moves every year…)

Anyway I got sidelined there for a moment and voicing my concerns for political movement of the festive season has taken me off my very important yet emo point of being a Wedding Grinch.

Basically at times it feels like we are barely making it through, no one tells you it’s going to be this hard?  Maybe all this crap is why people say their Wedding Day is the best day of their life?

Because finally, finally, finally, finally it’s all over.

At the moment the thought of the day itself and the epic honeymoon following are the only fuel we have getting us through, oh and LOLCats…

I'm getting married to my childhood sweetheart in Feb 2010. We live in our own home in Auckland, along with our 3 adorable, time consuming Meows. I'm creative, opinionated, indecisive, organised, imaginative, a little crazy and not very good at keeping quiet about things that excite me... so this is going to be my perfect playground!
