People who like their Kiwi blokes both a bit rough and a bit arty are in for a treat.

David Kilgour from The Clean has released Falling Debris, an album in which he's written the music, but the lyrics are from poems by Sam Hunt.

It all began 20 years ago. Back in the 1980s, Hunt was in a boat shed writing the poetry that two decades later, Kilgour would turn into music.

And while Hunt was tapping into the tides, Kilgour, a mere boy, polka-dotted before dancing sirens, was in The Clean - one of the greatest New Zealand bands of all time.

Seeing them now you realise how right it was that they should work together.

Sam Hunt, the poet, talking the hind leg off a donkey, and David Kilgour, listening to the words fall and then putting them to music.
