From Sideways director Alexander Payne, The Descendants is up for a swathe of Oscars, one of which I suspect will almost certainly go to George Clooney.
Clooney is the central character is this Hawaiian story about a man whose wife lies in a coma, while the rest of his life spirals out of control.
Trying to reconnect with his two young daughters, while at the same time make an enormous decision about the future of a large plot of his family land, Clooney’s deliciously engaging performance sucks you right in, with some equally noteworthy outings from his younger cast members.
This is one of those films which stays with you for days, and I'd even go as far to say it’s a must-see.
Four and a half stars.
