This weekend we've heard a lot about the living wage. That's the campaign to lift wages to at least $18.40 an hour.
In Auckland, Mayor Len Brown has committed to the principal of paying council employees a living wage. In Wellington, mayoral hopefuls have done the same.
But for three years now the central government has simply refused to consider the idea. In fact a week ago, National MP Tau Henare made news for the way he responded to questions around raising wages for Parliament's cleaners.
