Sally and Jaime Ridge

Sally and Jaime Ridge

By Cleo Fraser

It's called The Ridges but the show's namesake makes just one fleeting appearance as he crosses the street to avoid the show's stars - his ex-wife and daughter.

The anticipated show staring socialites Sally and Jaime aired on Wednesday night on TV3, but its success won't be known until Thursday when television ratings are revealed, however, the show was the most discussed topic on Twitter after it aired.

The heavily made-up pair are introduced sitting on a bed going through old magazine photo spreads discussing the negative way they are often portrayed by the media and public.

"There is definitely more to me than meets the eye," Jaime said.

Sally adds: "I always get slaughtered, I should be Sally Slaughtered Ridge... I've had a lot of unnecessary garbage media of late".

Sally married former All Black Matthew Ridge when she was 18 - the same age their child Jaime is now - but despite the pair divorcing in 2001 she has kept her famous ex's name.

In 2003 Sally married former international cricketer Adam Parore but the pair divorced in 2010.

As the TV show progresses it is revealed that Sally doesn't get on with Matthew and he has no relationship with his daughter.

As the Ridges drink wine at a pricey Ponsonby restaurant with friends to celebrate Sally buying a new home, they spot Matthew out for a run.

When he catches sight of the pair he crosses the road and dashes off. Quite possibly he was afraid of the cameras following Sally and Jaime's every move.

The rest of the show is dedicated to Jaime - who is a clean freak and says "clothes are my life" - being shown the run down flat Sally has bought which the pair plan to do up.

There is a lot of squealing and screaming.

The first discovery is clumps of hair in the bathroom which Sally tries to throw at Jaime.

In the kitchen the floor is covered in old food and bugs. A rat runs across the floor and there's lots more screaming before Jaime - shock, horror - storms off.

Jaime calls in ex-boyfriend, Junior Black Stick Dwayne Rowsell, who gets rid of the rat and the women get dolled up and are off to a ball.

They are shown hanging out with other Kiwi celebrities - aka Shortland Street stars - and have their photos taken on the red carpet leading to the event.

The following day the women are back at the house where Jaime tells her mother she's in it for the long haul. Whether the same goes for the show's viewers is another story.

I can't thank you enough for all that you have done for me. About a year ago I my partner split up, we had both made BIG mistakes in our relationship. He ended up moving away from me to pursue a new life. I knew in my heart that he would be the only one to make me happy. I was relieved when I found your email on a site about what you have done. I requested 1 to 2 day casting of the reunite us love spell and within 3days mark company had relocated him back to our hometown where I still lived. We immediately reconnected and move in with each other. Our wedding date is set for Summer 2012. Expect to see your invite in the mail thanks to upesaspelltemple@gmail.com

Isan't it interesting reading all the nasty, judgmental comments about an amazingly committed mother doing an incredible job raising 4 kids on her own, and all people want to do is run her down?I dont get it? Good on her for instilling humility in her children and teaching them not to resort to the same level of nastiness people expose them to, good for you Sally! Why are people so stupid that the don't even realize how unintelligent and cruel they sound, bagging beautiful sweet kiwis just trying to live their lives. These people shouldn't watch their show, shouldn't they being doing something more productive if they only watch it to slag it off? You people are sadly full of insecurities and what you are actually screaming out for is some attention of your own. You are jealous, face it and how do you know enough to ridiicule!? Why are you watching if you don't like them? Face it it's hard when people are beautiful and talented, embrace them, support them and then take a good long look in the mirror. You go all 5 Ridges you rock!

Loved the show, how talented Sally is and also Jamie's commitment with her studies and just being prepared to get out there and giving things a go even when things get tough. Well done

Wow it wasn't that bad!!! I quite enjoyed it haha I have had the pleasure of meeting the pair and they were lovely!! I would be just as guarded with so many haters and opinions on what they get up To in their own time!! What is it that you're doing to make a difference in this world people!? None of us know what type of good their doing, but I bet there's something!! Being that they are both talented, driven and successful. Stop judging and throwing all sorts of stupid comments like why did they go to Colins Birthday in a taxi!? Come on and get a grip!!! Doesn't it show you that their just normal people like the rest of us!? Compassion is a better remedy than hate.

I loved it. Light hearted entertainment. I actually thought that Sally had a strong bond with Jaimee & that Jaimee clearly loves her mum. So what if Jaimee's used to beautiful things, dont we all like this if we were honest with ourselves. I would have liked to have had a more priviledged upbringing, but or well thats life...

Pathetic. Sally was never married to Adam. Why did she not hire cleaners to clean the house. surely she must have seen the house before she purchased it. She acted as if she had never been there before. I feel sorry for her children having an airhead mother like that. What is she famous? Being with two sportsman.
