Targeting the upcoming school holiday market The Sorcerers Apprentice.

Nicolas Cage gets his hair on as our sorcerer Balthazar, on the hunt for the apprentice who will help him save the world.

Enter stage left said apprentice, not that Dave knows it yet, and in the shape of Tropic Thunder's Jay Baruchel.

On the upside here, most of the big special effects are way cool, and plenty enough to entertain younger audiences.

On the downside, the script was entirely underwhelming even cringe-worthily bad at times.

Two and a half stars.
