Three Golden Globe nominations despite a mass hammering by critics, The Tourist is a strange mix.

Directed by the man who gifted us Oscar-winner The Lives of Others, written by the man who won an Oscar for The Usual Suspects, and starring two of biggest and prettiest movie stars on the planet, you’d be forgiven for having rather high expectations of The Tourist

Despite the pedigree, this film suffers from a slight identity crisis. Gorgeous to look at, with a meandering old fashioned pace, tempo and story, this will be too ponderous a watch for the Bourne generation, and almost a little try-hard for the art-house crowd.

These faults in mind, and the fact you’ll quite likely pick the ending half way through, I certainly didn’t find The Tourist’s Venice adventure a wasted journey.

Three Stars.
