Brad Pitt's movie The Tree Of Life landed the top prize at the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) awards gala in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The picture landed the Feature Film trophy for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, seeing off competition from The Artist, Hugo, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The ceremony, held at the Grand Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, also produced honours for TV shows Boardwalk Empire and Californication, while veteran actor Harrison Ford was handed the Board of Governors Award for his career in film.

During his acceptance speech, the Indiana Jones star praised the importance of cinematographers, telling the audience, "There is art and there is craft, and there can be no art without the craft that gets it there."
