Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in Eclipse

Reviewed by Kate Rodger

Oh what a conundrum this reviewer has been in.

How to be fair to the legions of Twilight fans when her heart is no longer in it?

How to review Eclipse in a balanced and judicial fashion, when really she knows her life would be a happier place if Stephanie Meyer had opted for needlepoint instead of literature?

As usual with the Twilight Saga, it doesn’t matter what I say. Twihards saw Eclipse in the opening week, and my opinion counts for little. So for what it’s worth, I hereby give Eclipse two and a half stars, agreeing that while it may be a slightly superior cinematic adaption than New Moon, I felt worn down by weak dialogue in a dull, monotonous and bloodless story.

I have to agree with Kate Rogder on this one. I have read all four books many many times. The first movie lacked so much in more than just details from the book i nearly didn't see the second one. In the second one the acting and producing was better, i'll give it that so i thought who knows about the third. And then of course there was so much hype about the third book that i thought what the hey, I'll go see it,it can only get better, right? Boy was i disappointed to the extent that i will not go see the final two movies. I can say this, for those who have not read the books these movies are ok because they don't know what really important details they are missing. I will also say for those who read the books after seeing the movies, be prepared for a very different experience.BTW- Ebert reviewed the movie with similar critique.

stace - what fight scenes? There was only ONE, right at the very end, that lasted about two minutes, and it was pretty stink. There was about two of the vampire heads being cut off that looked cool with the ice stuff inside them, but it was still a pretty bad fight scene, and it was right at the end of two hours of terribly, terribly written characters reciting unthinkably dull and basic dialogue at each other, with the men generally topless. Kate's review is way, way more than fair - it's saying the film is half as good as a movie can be, giving it a 50% rating (a pass in school cert). It's a terrible movie, just dreadful.

I don't think this was a fair review. I think Kate went into watching the movie with her mind already made up about it. Eclipse was a great movie the best out of all 3. She could of gave the fights scenes a mention cause they were awesome. The movie deserves at least 3 1/2 stars.
