Public interest in beauty pageants has dropped

She would have been a household name once, but we bet you couldn't name the current Miss New Zealand.

Back in the day beauty pageants were televised live, but public interest and contestant numbers have dropped away.

The pageants though somehow survived - albeit on a smaller scale.

Just 21 girls entered the recent Miss Central South pageant in Timaru at the weekend. They were aged from 17 right down to four.

Jendy Harper spent a day with the littlest pageant girls and their mums to see just what the attraction is.
