Cynthia Jane Williams weighs 820 grams. She's so small she almost fits into the palm of her mother's hand.

To her mum, she's a miracle, but tiny Cynthia is fighting for her life.

Born at just 27 weeks, she's in Auckland Hospital's intensive care unit for newborns.

Cynthia's mum drank alcohol while she was pregnant. She says that only one occasion was after she knew she was carrying a baby, but there were other occasions before she knew.

Now, this young mother has a message she wants to deliver.

What is wrong with young mothers today? Premature babies seem to be so common now within Maori families. I daughter has had three premature children 890grms (died); 780grms, he's 4 now and 640grms (died). This young lady should be getting educated and looking for a job...not drinking, having babies with no direction in life. The worst part is her mother doesn't see anything wrong with her daughter having two pregnancies before she was 18 years old. More extreme health costs for the public.

I think this is abosolutly disgusting. She had no emotion in her voice what so ever, the way she spoke i seriously took as a joke, she does not deserve a piece on campbell live, she does not deserve that baby at all. Will be lumbered with her parents for sure so she can get back out there drinking and doing it all over again. Teen mums need to grow up and take responsibilty for there actions!!

As a nation, we gladly help those who need assistance, but this is such a tiring story. Pregnant mother, out partying, the other child is where? Poor baby, doomed to a life of neglect, if the first six months are anything to go by.

Women like this make me despair! She has had 2 unplanned premature babies at 18 and who knows how many more she'll punch out over the next 30 fertile years she has left? Why would she not be on contraception after the first one? What an unneccessary waste of money for an overburdened health system to have to fund. These prem babies require so much time and money to ensure their survival and while no one begrudges it when really needed, this woman is a train wreck and this outcome sdo preventable. Yes good on her for speaking out about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy but that's about the only kudos she gets from me. I just hope she doesn't feature on Campbell Live in a few years time in a story about "Child poverty".

i myself had a prem, born at 26 weeks. weighing 865g. Unlike this prems mum, i was stuck in hospital for weeks on end, waiting for my babys early arrival. being told that she will die, and that they wouldnt resuscitate her unless she was born after 24 weeks. I had been in hospital since 22 weeks. Kinda peeved off, that cos she drank alcohol, and had a prem that she got on the news. there are a lot more inspiring stories around, i met many mums going thru similar situations to me, one whom is my sister only 6 weeks before my daughter was born. Maybe go out there, and find a real story... good luck to her, and her prem, it wil be a long road. we are in our 10th week, and kinda see the end, but it wont be anytime before xmas, sadly.
