The death-defying Nitro Circus

3News NZ

You may take one look at this video and think, "What a bunch of nutters!"

But they prefer to call themselves action sports stars.

Broken bones, near death experiences – nothing stops them coming back for more.

According to their promoter, they're the crazy kid you remember from school who was always up for a stunt – usually egged-on by his classmates.

And then that kid grew up and ran away to the circus – Nitro Circus.

The first show of their New Zealand tour is underway right now in Dunedin.

Jendy Harper and our cameraman Christie Douglas went to the rehearsal – watch the video.

People do realise the FACT that other sports have a higher rate of serious injuries than extreme sports right? You don't see the many concussions and serious long term injuries in rugby do you? Rugby is just as dangerous as this believe it or not. These guys have medical insurance..don't be stupid.

it is interesting that you guys do a story on that couple in fiji who are ripping off ACC. but these guys who spend months or years on ACC are cool don't get me wrong i have spent my time getting looked after by the state but i think that kim would be sadly let down to belive that any insurance company in NZ will under write these guys and james try that crash as an adult and you will find you won't be on your scooter for a while

Umm they do Rachel, thats why they have medical insurance, should we all just wrap ourselves in cotton wool? I bet you wouldn't be happy about all the money spent on other sports injuries or is that ok cause it's rugby, netball ect

I crushed a vertebrae plus ribs, colar bone etc on a bike when i was 1. I was only in hospital for a week, and it took 2 years for the smashed bone to slowly absorb away! just one week in hospital for that, algood, that wont be braking the bank. But we know, hearing from the nurses and docters mouths that the real money waster is alcohol related incidents.
So whats your opinion about drunks wasting our hospital treatment? Or were you just having a go at people with a life, that arn't sheeple?

Riders in this Circus may say it's their lives, but who pays for their hospital treatment?
